Also, she performed at bars in the area, such as Tootsie's in Broadway. Alaina won the WinniSTAR contest for youth talent in 2009 at Lake Winnepesaukah. She also wrote songs like Leaving and Set Me Free. Alaina her cousin, Holly Witherow's with a brain cancer tumor, encouraged her to start singing. Alaina was a Pizza Hut employee before joining Idol. She was a student at Lakeview Fort Oglethorpe High School in Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia, where she participated in the cheerleading team.
