Katarina began to skate at age five. old. Her natural talents became more apparent, she received an entry into an Karl-Marx-Stadt school that specializes in children who have a athletic aptitude. The school was where she met Jutta Muller in this school. Witt placed second in the World Championships of Copenhagen in 1982. This marked her debut. Since then, her elegance and grace have caught the interest of all. Olympic triumph Katarina (now Witt) was awarded the Figure Skating gold medal at Sarajevo in the Sarajevo Winter Games. She won a much closer race after four years. While she was unable to win the competition for free skating, the gold was awarded for her performances on the mandatory figures as well as the short program. Witt is the first figure skater female to have won this event two times since Sonja Heine. Hall of Fame Witt had many successes in her acting career however she returned to figure skating to participate in the Lillehammer Winter Games of 1994. She placed seventh but enchanted fans despite not winning a medal. Witt received her induction to the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame, 1995.
